LiquidText - the best software for reading literature
New post
LiquidText is the best program for reading literature that I have found. It is excellent for when we have a lot of material on a certain subject or project. The program has numerous functions, but I have used it for several years for one reason only. It has the best search function out of all the programs I have used.
In the images below, I have shown a quick example. You can see two important textbooks for studying medicine - Internal Medicine and Clinical Examination - open at the same time. (The textbooks in the image are Slovenian, don’t mind that.)
With the search function, I can search both textbooks simultaneously for what interests me. In this case, it is the term “pljučna embolija” (pulmonary embolism). The program finds all references to this condition in both books. Then I can gather all the found expressions together, as you can see in the second image.
This way, I can quickly get an overview of where this condition appears in the textbooks. At the same time, I can immediately see the context in which the searched term appears. With the mouse, I can then expand each field as desired to reveal more text around the searched chapter. If you compare the second and third images, you can see that I have expanded the main title Pulmonary Embolism and immediately started reading the chapter.
At the same time, I can easily browse through other chapters that mention the disease, quickly creating a fuller picture.
The program itself also has its shortcomings. The most annoying thing is that it often suddenly closes. This happens most often when we load it with searches on larger files. I don't know if this is due to the program or my computer's performance. It happens to me on the computer, and it happened to me on the iPad, which was once my main studying tool.
The second drawback is its price. The official website lists the price for the Pro version of the program at $39.99. The free version has search available, but only on one document. The power of the search is much more noticeable when we have multiple documents. Although the price seems crazy high to me, I would still pay it again, as this program has saved me numerous hours of work and made learning much more enjoyable.
The third drawback is in the general refinement of the program. In this article, I only talked about its search function. In addition, it has numerous other functions that can also be useful. I won't list them here, but I'll add a link to the presentation video and application stores. Despite the fact that the program is capable of many things, it often seems unfinished. Sometimes I felt like I had to fight with it to make things work the way I wanted them to. I can’t remember specific examples of what went wrong. I only remember the feeling that sometimes things were harder than they needed to be.
Despite this, it is the best program for reading and searching through material. I highly recommend it to anyone who processes larger quantities of literature.
In conclusion, I quote the second half of Our Laboratory: "I am glad I don't need it anymore. But if I did, I would use it again because it's the best."
